About JN+

For nearly thirty years, we have been more than a network. We are a collective movement of resilience, advocacy, and institutional leadership for all Jamaicans living with HIV.

The Heartbeat of Our Response

At the very core of our existence is the GIPA principle, the Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV. This is not a secondary goal; it is the anchor of our strategy. We believe that for an HIV response to be truly effective and dignified, the community must be at the center of planning, implementation, and evaluation.

By repositioning the voices of PLHIV, we transform a medical diagnosis into a catalyst for national change. Our community-led strategy ensures that every intervention, from clinical care to human rights advocacy, is informed by the lived realities of our members.

Community leadership and participation within JN+

Our Story and Legacy

The journey of the Jamaican Network of Seropositives (JN+) began in 1996 following a regional meeting in Trinidad. The need for a unified voice led to our public launch in 1997, establishing a network dedicated to empowering the HIV-positive community.

From our earliest days as a support collective, we have evolved into a vital stakeholder in the national HIV response. Today, we work in technical partnership with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and international partners such as UNAIDS to influence national policies and protect the rights of our community.

An Island-Wide Presence

JN+ national reach and system-wide presence

JN+ is present in every regional health authority across Jamaica. Our reach extends from urban centers such as Kingston and St. Andrew to the most remote parishes, ensuring that no one navigates their health journey in isolation.

With 36 community facilitators supporting over 1,175 peers annually, we serve as a bridge between clinical sites and the people they serve. Our vision for the 2023–2028 strategic period remains focused on achieving viral suppression and fostering a culture where human rights are upheld without compromise.
