Treatment, Care & Support

For nearly three decades, JN+ has served as the heartbeat of Jamaica’s HIV response. We operate on the foundational belief that those living with HIV are not just recipients of care, but the primary architects of their own health and dignity.

Peer-led treatment and care

Our clinical programs are designed to bridge the often-intimidating gap between the medical exam room and the daily reality of living with HIV. We understand that treatment is far more complex than a daily pill; it is a psychological and social commitment that requires constant nurturing, community validation, and the removal of systemic barriers.

Through our community facilitators’ deployment programme, we place highly trained peers directly into treatment sites across every regional health authority on the island. These facilitators act as clinical mentors, walking alongside their peers to provide the emotional resilience needed to stay in care. They are the friendly faces who understand the fear of stigma and the science of viral suppression equally, ensuring no one walks the path to health alone.

The life-changing science of U=U

Central to our treatment literacy workshops is the empowering concept of Undetectable = Untransmittable. By teaching our members the science of their own bodies, we transform patients into experts. This knowledge gives them the confidence to navigate healthcare systems and intimate relationships with dignity, knowing that achieving viral suppression prevents the transmission of HIV to others.

Community compass and monitoring

To ensure that the Jamaican healthcare system remains responsive to the needs of our community, JN+ implements community-led monitoring through our Community Compass initiative. This is not just data collection; it is advocacy in action, fueled by the lived experiences of our members.

We monitor the quality of treatment delivery at clinical sites to understand why some members become lost to follow-up. By gathering this evidence through focus groups and broad community engagement, we hold service providers accountable and drive changes that make clinics safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for every person living with HIV in Jamaica.

Empowerment and support groups

Acceptance is the first step toward long-term health. Our support groups are structured around the Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention curriculum, a journey of shared learning that builds self-worth and confidence.

These spaces are designed to dismantle self-stigma and strengthen adherence through peer connection. Specialized groups for women and men who have sex with men create confidential environments where lived experiences can be shared openly. Through these networks, members move from survival toward informed, confident advocacy.
